FIELD: technological processes; metallurgy.;SUBSTANCE: in method bottom part of electroslag remelt bars, which creates pilger head in process of pipes rolling in pilger rolling mill, is cast from plastic carbon grades of steel, and main part of bars is cast from the main grade of steel, and after rolling in pilger rolling mill pilger heads from plastic carbon steels are removed, at that height of bottom part of bars from plastic carbon steel grades is defined from the following expression Lbottom=K Lbar, where Lbar is total height of electroslag remelt bar, mm; Lbottom is height of bar bottom part from plastic carbon steel grade, mm; K=(0.15-0.20) - coefficient, high values of which are related to bars and pipes from alloyed grades of steel of larger diameter and wall thickness.;EFFECT: lower consumption of metal from alloyed and low-alloyed steel grades and melts, higher efficiency of pilger rolling mills and reduction of cost of commercial and conversion pipes of this assortment.;5 cl, 1 tbl
