A catalyst for the selective oxidation of carbon monoxide contained in the hydrogen-containing gases, wherein the catalyst consisting of ruthenium in metallic form, ruo, ru₂O₃, Ruo₂, Ru (oh)₃ or a mixture of two or more of these compounds on a support is composed of aluminum oxide hydrate.
