The method involves generating ultrasonic measuring signals with a pre-determined frequency through an ultrasonic flow measuring instrument (11). The ultrasonic measuring signals of the ultrasonic flow measuring instrument are brought over a waveguide (12) in contact with a melt (7). The waveguide contains tungsten, molybdenum, niobium, tantalum or an alloy or a combination of two of the elements. An independent claim is also included for a measuring arrangement.
