The calendar (1) has a nip (7) that is defined by a heated roller (2) and a counter pressure element (3). A fire-fighting device has an extinguishing agent e.g. water, spraying arrangement including extinguishing agent spraying devices (10-17) at axial ends, and an intake side or a discharge side of the calendar. Each spraying device has an output direction with an axial component. The arrangement is arranged at a side of the roller and/or the element at distance from a roller stack. A side of the roller and/or the element is turned away from the nip. An independent claim is also included for a method for using a calendar.
