The unit (1) has an annular groove (5) provided at an external lateral area (4) facing a component. A snap ring (6) is arranged completely in the annular ring during insertion of the bearing unit into the component. The snap ring is engaged into the annular ring at the component when achieving an installation position so as to fix the bearing unit in an axial direction. The snap ring is manufactured from material exhibiting dimensioned shear strength so that the material shears during removal of the bearing unit from the installation position and the bearing unit is removed from the component.
