The device has an electrical controller (34) for recording a front side-image (40) of a street section (18) and a front side of an object (36) e.g. motor vehicle or person, on the section by using a camera (26). Another camera (28) records a danger zone image (44) of a danger zone (22) and/or the section. The controller compares the images (40, 44) with each other until the object is detected in the image (44). The controller sets a condition parameter to a value when all the objects are detected, where the parameter codes a condition representing whether a level crossing (10) is curved. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a level-crossing.
