The actuator (2) has an actuator body (23) with a set of ceramic layers (27) and a set of electrode layers that is arranged between the ceramic layers. An external electrode connection (35) is connected with a part of the electrode layers, and is formed as a folded wire. The external electrode connection is completely sealed with a sealing unit (38), which fills hollow spaces (45, 46) that are provided in the external electrode connection. A protective layer (42) covers the actuator body and the external electrode connection. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a piezoelectric actuator.
