The method involves transferring a signed data record into a safe memory of a receiver provided in a motor vehicle. The signed data record is tested by a stored public key of a key pair bases on the data authenticity in the safe memory. User data stored in a data storage e.g. Universal serial busmemory, is transferred into the vehicle, and the transferred user data is tested by the signed data record for authenticity of the data record. The user data is used as an authentic user data for software updating, where the user data comprises a reference of the user data.
