The method involves pulsed heating a joining region (2) i.e. spot welding joint between structural components (1, 1') in a bodywork shell. A temporal sequence of intensity images of the joining region is received by a thermography camera. Temporal dependence of measured intensity in a camera region and/or a pixel is evaluated. Intensity processes are evaluated in multiple rectangular regions distributed over the joining region. Information about quality of joint of the components and a location of weld points relative to an edge of the component, are obtained from the processes. An independent claim is also included for a test system comprising an excitation source.
