The motor vehicle has an internal combustion engine (1) operated with diesel fuel (3), where the internal combustion engine is supplied with the diesel fuel by a fuel system. A sensor (4) is arranged in or on the fuel system in a fixed and stable manner for differentiating between the diesel fuel and heating oil. The sensor is suitable for analyzing gas components and/or liquid components. The sensor exhibits a light source i.e. LED, that emits a light beam i.e. infrared pulse, penetrating into the diesel fuel through a transparent window.
