The method involves providing a primary control element i.e. throttle flap (24), and a secondary control element of an air system. The desired values (wnwesuf, wnwasuf) for secondary control element are obtained based on two engine characteristics which are supplied to the same input parameters, where the engine characteristics are different from each other and are assigned to different operating conditions of an internal-combustion engine (10). The secondary control element is controlled based on the obtained desired values.
