The optical weather sensor has a laser (1) as source for a light beam and a sensor (2) for extinction measurement. The optical weather sensor also has a sensor (3) for measuring forward scattering. A cover (4) is vertically arranged in the weather sensor. An independent claim is included for a method for an optical identification of particle sizes, particle speeds and visibility and fog incidents.
