The method involves providing a printing machine with a feed table (2) and a printing unit. A sensor (6) for detecting a position of printed sheets (81, 82) and a double sheet controller (5) are arranged to the table. The printing machine is operated in two operating conditions such that a sheet feeding block (7) arranged after the table in a direction of travel of the sheets is activated in one of the conditions. The block is provided in an inactive condition such that a release of the block takes place when evaluating signals of the sensor for detecting the position of the sheet (81). An independent claim is also included for a device for locking the sheet supply of a printing machine.
