The generator has a stator, and a stator coil (10) connected with direct current voltage mains (20, 22) and an electrical system of a motor vehicle over an electric rectifier arrangement (18). An exciter winding (44) is energized by the stator coil over a voltage stabilizer (42). The exciter winding is designed as double connection coil with a regulated shunt connection coil (38) and a row connection coil (30) supplied with a load current (I). The row connection coil and the shunt connection coil are stationarily arranged within a rotor designed as a claw pole rotor.
