The method and device for optimizing small sewage treatment plants or small purification plants by avoiding or reducing the discharge of sludge particles in the small sewage treatment plants and small purification plants with sequencing batch reactor (SBR) process and/or other technical plants by a simple unit, comprise a mammoth pump (1) (air lift pump), at which a T-piece is fitted in a suction area (4). The T-piece is expanded with an upwardly directed opening in an arrangement up to above a maximum water level. The unit has any geometrical conceivable shape in the suction area. The method and device for optimizing small sewage treatment plants or small purification plants by avoiding or reducing the discharge of sludge particles in the small sewage treatment plants and small purification plants with sequencing batch reactor (SBR) process and/or other technical plants by a simple unit, comprise a mammoth pump (1) (air lift pump), at which a T-piece is fitted in a suction area (4). The T-piece is expanded with an upwardly directed opening in an arrangement up to above a maximum water level. The unit has any geometrical conceivable shape in the suction area of the mammoth pump. The T-piece in the arrangement is fitted at the mammoth pump in a slanting angle of 45[deg] . The T-piece in the suction area of the mammoth pump is arranged in each possible angle. A tube (9), at which the T-piece is fastened, runs in each possible angle. The suction area of the mammoth pump is pivoted by a pivot joint or other units. The unit is retrofitted at the air lift pump in the suction area of the mammoth pump in a simple manner, and consists of different materials and their combinations in the suction area of the mammoth pump.
