The method involves supplying a material web (3) to a servicer (2) for a tire building drum (1). The front tip (12) of the material web is applied and fixed on the tire building drum. The relative position of a front splice-edge (8) of the material web is measured with a sensor system by accumulation on the tire building drum. The actual-position is compared with a predetermined reference-position of the front splice edge of the material web. A selective arrangement is adjusted during a deflection of the actual and reference positions of the front splice edge.
