The method involves sampling of signals to be digitized for obtaining a number of sampling-pair of values from sampling time points and amplitude value. A digital representation of the signals is determined based on the number of sampling-pair of values. Parameters of approximation function are determined based on the number of sampling-pair of values, and are outputted. The time points are equidistant or adapted to characteristics of the signals. Tolerance range is selected such that the function is excluded between the time points not more than an amplitude level of the amplitude values. An independent claim is also included for a coding unit for digitizing of continuous signals.
