Distance and speed detecting method for e.g. motor vehicle, involves producing scattered wave when electromagnetic waves are reflected by object, and processing received scattered wave to determine distance and speed of object
The method involves sending electromagnetic waves (108) e.g. radio waves, over a frequency range. A period of the waves is provided with a number of successive triangular stages. Two stages of the period are sent over two different parts of the frequency range. One of the stages is transferred relative to another stage about a frequency shift. A scattered wave reflected from an object (114) is received. The scattered wave is produced when the electromagnetic waves are reflected by the object. The received scattered wave is processed to determine a distance and a speed of the object. An independent claim is also included for a radar system comprising a radar transmitter.
