The method involves establishing a list of vehicles to be taken back, and alarming controllers in which a file is downloaded. The file is transmitted by a downloading tool to the controller. An acknowledge information is emitted by the controller of each vehicle to the downloading tool. Another vehicle list, in which an acknowledge received, is established by the tool. The lists are compared to validate that all vehicles are correctly taken back. An independent claim is also included for a system for downloading a file in controllers embarked in a motor vehicle.
