The process for applying a protective varnish coating on an electronic card having a protective zone, comprises applying a flexible composite film (15) having a masking sheet (17) of which a side is covered with an adhesive and a strippable sheet (19) on the adhesive for forming a support, incising the composite film on a total thickness of the masking sheet to define a mask stencil having a configuration corresponding to the protective zone, removing the stencil and pasting it on the protective zone, spraying the varnish on the card, and removing the stencil after applying the varnish. The process for applying a protective varnish coating on an electronic card having a protective zone, comprises applying a flexible composite film (15) having a masking sheet (17) of which a side is covered with an adhesive and a strippable sheet (19) on the adhesive for forming a support, incising the composite film on a total thickness of the masking sheet to define a mask stencil having a configuration corresponding to the protective zone, removing the stencil and pasting it on the protective zone, spraying the varnish on the card, and removing the stencil after applying the varnish. The composite film is incised with a cutting plotter to describe the configuration. The cutting plotter is programmed to accept a definition of card index file.
