The present invention provides materials and methods for improving the biological properties and electromechanical performance of collagen scaffolds used for cell transplantation. This is achieved by binding the support with biocompatible reagents and by attaching adhesion molecules that control both cell attachment, apoptosis, survival, and / or differentiation. The grafting of adhesion molecules on collagenous matrices leads to applications in medicine / cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery as well as in cell therapy in the heart or for the engineering of an artificial myocardium.This invention also provides a method for simple to graft and optimize the presentation of adhesion peptides or biological agents if the scaffold is made of collagen and / or contains accessible groups thiols, amines or carboxyl groups.
