The method involves forming a flank (3) on the circumference of a plate (2) e.g. circular shaped plate, by assembling a cardboard strip with the plate, where the plate is made of wood or cardboard. The height of the flank is rolled under pressure and high temperature using a forming tool (7) to form a retaining perforation rim (9) retaining a cover by projecting the plate. The rolled height is controlled by adjusting the displacement of the tool for arranging an opening (6) between the roll and the plate, where the cover is in the form of dome. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing a base of a food packing case.
