The method involves determining an air flow through volumetric efficiency of a direct injection type diesel engine, and estimating fuel flow (Qinj) according to the air flow and preciousness (Ri mes), where the fuel is injected into the engine. A variance between the fuel flow and a fuel flow set point (Ri cons) is calculated, and the fuel flow set point is adjusted according to the variance for obtaining a corrected fluid flow set point defining a preciousness set point for controlling a recycled exhaust gas valve.
