The detector has a controller for delimiting a bounded region (14) in a spatial reference from determined positions of geometric points, where the points correspond to a contour belonging to an object detected in an observation zone. The controller delimits a transition region in the spatial reference at an edge of the bounded region. The controller detects a geographic end point and determines a position of the end point in the reference from transition zone images transmitted by an image acquisition unit. The point is associated to an end contour of the object at the transition zone. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting an object using a detector.
