The device (1) has an annular chamber (8) that is extended along a given direction (D), where the chamber with an interior peripheral is overlaid at a parallelepiped single crystal scintillator bars (9) mounted parallel to the direction. The chamber is constituted by crystals for converting light energy of gamma photons positron annihilation emitted by a radioactive body (6). Each bar with longitudinal ends equipped with solid state photomultipliers. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting a position of a radioactive body.
