The device has an adjustable heat exchange unit (1) including a removable element in contact with a circuit of a respirator for allowing circulation of air breathed into lungs (4) of a patient (10). The exchange unit comprises a cooling unit for cooling the air breathed into the lungs. The exchange unit is adjusted by a manual control unit, where the control unit is constituted of an adjusting unit for adjusting temperature exchanged by the exchange unit. A measuring unit carries out direct or indirect measurement of amount of the air in an air circulation conduit (7).
