The method involves recuperating values of input and output parameters. A function I(y, x ix T) is calculated for different values of i, where x ix T is a value of the input parameter offset with an elementary delay of ix T, i is an integer comprised between 1 and n, T is a input parameter value sampling period, and I(y, x) is a function of mutual information between input and output parameters. An optimal elementary delay is fixed based on the calculated function. A non-linear dynamic digital model structure is selected, and a dynamic digital model is generated with fixed optimal delay.
