The system has downstream and upstream propellers (6, 8) that rotate around a longitudinal axis (4) with respect to a stator (2). A mechanical transmission device (12) has a planetary gearing (14) equipped with a planet gear (16) centered on the longitudinal axis, where the gear is driven by a turbine of a turbine engine. The device (12) has a satellite (40) associated to a satellite (20) of the gearing (14), and an internal gear (42) has internal teeth, where the internal gear is meshed with the satellite (40). The internal gear (42) is fixed with respect to the stator. An independent claim is also included for a method for piloting a contrarotating propeller system.
