PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the amount of information which can be stored in a database by making the capacity of a field in which offsets are stored smaller than a conventional manner.;SOLUTION: In a variable length offset access method, the field of a database includes: a base section B with specified data length which is composed of a base data region B2 in which a whole part or a part of offsets are stored and an extension flag region B1 in which an extension flag is stored; and an extension section E in which the residual offsets are stored as long as the extension flag exists in the extension flag region B1. When the extension flag does not exist in the extension flag region B1, the data stored in the base data region B2 are obtained as offsets, and when the extension flag exists, the data stored in the base data region B2 and the extension section E are connected and obtained as offsets, and the database is accessed.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
