PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light extraction performance evaluation method, etc. on a sample for evaluating the performance of the sample for extracting light from a first medium to a second medium.;SOLUTION: This light extraction performance evaluation method on a sample comprises positioning of the specimen on the second medium side of a boundary face, between the first medium equipped with a first refraction index and the second medium, equipped with a second refraction index smaller than the first refraction index; the illumination of the sample with light from the first medium side at an incidence angle larger than a critical angle determined by the first and second refraction indices; and the detection of light on the second medium side, with the light extracted from the first medium side, through the boundary face, to the second medium side. Preferably, the first refraction index is not smaller than 1.33 and not larger than 1.60, while the second medium is air or vacuum.
