The punching press comprises clamping plates (27) and a press ram (1). The press ram lies opposite to an upper side of the clamping plate and operates towards the clamping plate. The press ram moves up and down through four tension columns (2) by a crank drive. The crank drive is arranged below a belt movement plane (X) of the punching press.
