PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer wherein an option font can be added thereto without using a host computer. SOLUTION: This printer fetches a character code from a host and prints a character according to font data corresponding to the fetched character code. Font data which is stored in a memory means and is invalidated is validated so that the font data is not able to be used by a printer except this printer.
