PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a conventional character font generation processing system has been unable to decide whether or not a character string represented by two or more newly generated character fonts is legible. PSOLUTION: This method for deciding the legibility of a character string includes a calculation process which calculates the potential energy E or complexity C of a bitmap font according to a predetermined numerical formula, and a decision process which decides the legibility of the character string represented by the bitmap font on the basis of the calculated potential energy E or complexity C of the bitmap font.
