PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the ductility and strength of an NiAl or TiAl intermetallic compound without giving a change to the main structure of NiAl or TiAl by largely adding a third element.;SOLUTION: In the method for improving the ductility and strength of an intermetallic compound, 0 to 30 mass% Cr powder is added to NiAl powder, and thereafter, the Cr-added powdery mixture is sintered by hot isostatic press (HIP) under the conditions where the maximum temperature/maximum pressure/holding time satisfy 973 to 1,523 K/172 to 350 MPa/2 to 4 hr.
