PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document (paper money, for instance) checker having an inductive sensor. ;SOLUTION: The document checker has a document passage 12 through which a document is carried and the inductive sensor for detecting the features of the document. The sensor has a 1st inductive element 40 arranged on the 1st side of the plane of the document passage 12 and a 2nd inductive element 42 arranged on the 2nd side of the plane of the document passage. A circuit connected to the output of the sensor processes a signal related to judgment of at least one of the existence, authenticity and money sort of an inserted document. When a document such as paper money is carried along the document passage, the sensor is not required to physically come into contact with the document.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2000,JPO
