The strake system (12) comprises at least two shell members (16A, 16B) forming a hollow cylinder defining a cylindrical hollow passage for receiving the marine element (6), the hollow cylinder being provided with a strake extending along the outer surface of the hollow cylinder so as to reduce vortex induced vibrations of the marine element.
