METHODS FOR INCREASING MOBILITY OF A DOG HAVING ARTHRITIS, TO INCREASE WEIGHT SUPPORTED IN A DOG MEMBER HAVING ARTHRITIS, TO REDUCE PAIN ASSOCIATED WITH ARTHRITIS IN A DOG, TO MODULATE ENZYMATIC DEGRADATION, AND A CARTILING CIRCLE TO REDUCE DAMAGE TO CARTILAGE IN A DOG. One method for modulating enzymatic degradation of articular cartilage in a dog comprises administering to the dog an amount effective for modulating enzymatic degradation of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), for example as a component of a food composition. By practicing the method on a dog with arthritis, the dog's mobility can be increased, the weight supported on the arthritic limb can be increased, and! or the pain associated with arthritis may be reduced.
