A method of tomographic imaging of highly attenuating material by acoustic / low frequency ultrasonic signals, comprising the steps of generating a low level sine burst signal, the frequency, number of cycles, amplitude and pulse repetition frequency of the burst signal being user configurable parameters; amplifying the burst signal to drive a transducer for converting the electrical signal to acoustic/ultrasonic signal which travels through the test specimen; receiving the attenuated acoustic/ultrasonic signal from the test specimen through receiving transducers, converting the received signal from the receiving transducer into an electrical signal; filtering the electrical signal from noise and amplifying the same; digitizing the conditioned electrical signal; processing the digitized electrical signal; reconstructing the image and carrying out a technical visual assessment, thereafter.
