2D/3D combined rendering using a disassembled 2D shape to apply 3D effects to the shape

Disclosed is a method for rendering shapes. The method comprises of receiving an indication (200) to apply 3D effects to a 2D shape, disassembling the 2D shape into one or more of a set, and creating a bitmap from a combination of parts resulting from disassembling. The set disassembled from the 2D shape comprises a 2D surface of a front face of the 2D shape, one or more ground plane effects, and a geometry of the shape. When creating a bitmap, one or more effects are selectively applied to one or more of the parts resulting from the disassembling.
