The invention relates to a process for preparing a fireproof polyphosphate-based product meant to be used in constructions. According to the invention, the process consists in neutralizing a reaction mixture consisting of phosphoric acid in an aqueous solution and inorganic bases selected from ammonia, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide or organic bases selected from aliphatic and or aromatic amines, amides, guanidines, at the temperature of 70...90°C, after which the temperature of the reaction medium is increased to 130...160°C in a microwave field, at a maximal field power of 1.4 kW and at 2450 MHz, for 90...200 min, thereby resulting a polycondensation product having a controlled range of the molecular mass which is cooled down to the ambient temperature in a controlled manner, for 8 hours, then is ground and sifted for packaging.
