The invention relates to the devices of identification of the rolling stock in rail transport. A method of tracking current dislocation of running wheels of rolling stock in rail transport provides for use of an oriented one-line sequence of identifiers of available controlled running wheels on the elements of range and identifier of available controlled running wheel by sensors of range. The range is divided into the elements in such a way that the presence and one-line sequence of positioning the controlled running wheels on each element change only by their entry to this element from the elements adjacent to it. On each inter-element boundary a sensor is installed in such a way that in the area of its action there only one controlled running wheel can be. An interrogator of sensors at any moment determines one of following set of states of its operating zone: “there is no running wheel” in the absence of running wheel in the zone of action of this sensor, “there is a running wheel in one known part from two parts of sensor action zone located in known sequence along the rail” at presence of running wheel in the zone of action of the sensor. In the case of increase of the time of fixation of entries of controlled running wheels into the zones of action of sensors and withdrawals of controlled running wheels from the zones of action of sensors respectively the one-line sequences of identifiers of controlled running wheels of equivalent components of range and information about location of controlled running wheels in the zones of action of corresponding sensors of range are changed. Technical result: possibility of identification of the rolling stock at unforeseen change of quantity and sequence of railroad cars in the train or at movement of the train in the opposite direction without use of a reading device of carriage markers.
