A device that transmits signals in a cellular communication system, having a plurality of shared uplink transmission resources divided into sets of mutually exclusive transmission resources; the device comprises: means for allocating a resource of uplink transmission to a wireless subscriber unit communication via a grant message; means for receiving a resource uplink transmission from a subscriber unit for wireless communication; means for deriving an identifier of uplink code associated with the uplink transmission or the grant message; means for allocating at least one code sequence associated with the downlink code identifier uplink derivative; and means for transmitting a downlink transmission comprising at least one code sequence downlink to the subscriber unit for wireless communication.
