An apparatus receives input of sample sets, eachincluding a set of values of design parameters and a set of valuesof objective functions; calculates objective functionapproximating equations; and selects, as initial candidates foran optimal design parameter set, some sets of values of designparameters corresponding to non-dominated solutions. Theapparatus calculates one or more interpolating design parametersets interpolating between two adjacent components in thecandidates; and approximates values of the objective functionsfor each interpolating design parameter set. The apparatusselects an optimal interpolating design parameter setcorresponding to a non-dominated solution in the costevaluation for a pair of objective functions; and integratesit into the candidates. The apparatus repeats processes on thenew candidates while determining the parameter distance betweencomponents of the new candidates. Finally obtained newcandidates are output as final optimal design parameter setsand information relating to it is displayed.
