The method involves detecting the entry of a mobile part (PP1-PP3) into a spatial area of a wireless telecommunications system defined according to the DECT standard or switching on a mobile part in the area and evaluating this as a presence signal, checking continued presence or activation by signal exchanges between the mobile part and a fixed part (FP) and updating the presence signal if the signal exchange is functional or clearing it if not.
