An apparatus and a method for tracking a retinal vessel in one pixel are provided to track the retinal vessel accurately by obtaining an edge with accuracy within one sub pixel from a Gaussian model. An edge detector(110) detects the edge from the input image and outputs the edge image. A curve tracking part(120) tracks the curve of the wall of a blood vessel from the edge image. A blood vessel cross-sectional profile tracking part(140) extracts the blood vessel cross-sectional profile by dividing the curve of the wall of the blood vessel in a direction vertical to the direction vector of the edge point. A blood vessel profile determining unit(150) determines the part between local minimum values in the blood vessel cross-sectional profile as the blood vessel sample profile. An edge position obtaining part(160) obtains the edge position of the wall of the blood vessel with accuracy within one sub pixel. A data generator(170) generates at least one of the width, the position, and the central line based on the peak of the Gaussian fit and the edge position.
