FIELD: nanotechnologies.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of nanotechnologies, to synthesis, modification, destruction and diagnostics of metal oxide nanostructures with application of scanning tunnel microscope (STM). Method for controlled synthesis with modification of single metal oxide nanostructures consists in the fact that synthesis and modification of nanostructures are carried out on metal tip of STM arranged over surface of defect-free section in (0001)-face of graphite, by means of its dosed soaking in gas medium of chemical reagent at the pressure of around 1·10-8 torr in presence of intense electric field developed by voltage applied to open nanocontact formed by tip and graphite. In process of nanostructures synthesis oxidant is used as chemical reagent, and in process of modification or destruction - reducing material is used as chemical reagent. Also modification and destruction of nanostructures are carried out by action of either voltages pulses supplied to open nanocontact, or pulses of tunnel current that occur as voltage pulses are supplied to closed nanocontact. Continuous monitoring of nanostructure composition and properties is carried out by measurement of volt-ampere characteristics or conductivities of tunnel nanocontacts.;EFFECT: invention provides continuous monitoring of nanostructure composition and properties in process of single technological cycle, including synthesis, modification and destruction of nanostructures.;6 cl, 5 dwg, 1 tbl
