The device has an electrode and a counter-electrode arranged on a rear surface of a transparent and flexible front substrate (2) and on a front surface of a transparent/non-transparent and flexible rear substrate (4) of a liquid crystal cell (1). The substrates are joined and maintained remote from each other by a sealing frame (6). The frame delimits a sealing volume for confining a twisted nematic or super-nematic type liquid crystal (CL). Dichroic colorant is dissolved in the crystal. The cell is integrated into a flexible support such as bank card.
