The method involves extruding a melt layer (9) from a delivery channel (1). Edge regions (4.1, 4.2) of the channel are thinner than a middle region (7) of the channel. A volume flow (6) of molten mass in the edge regions of the channel is reduced relative to the middle region of the channel by changing geometry of the edge regions. The volume flow of the molten mass is controlled relative to quantity and/or speed. The melt layer is stretched after emerging from a flat die. Edges (8.1, 8.2) of the melt layer are thinner than a cross-sectional thickness (d) of a laminar plastic product. An independent claim is also included for a device for producing a flat plastic product.
