The method involves assembling and/or manufacturing an engine at assembly carriers of an assembly conveyor in such a way that the respective assembly carrier is moved through a set of assembly areas (12-14) of the assembly conveyor by the assembly conveyor. The assembling of commission devices (16) for the engine to be manufactured is activated for a defined number of the engines to be manufactured, when a base module of one of the engines is actually manufactured in an assembly station of the assembly area (12) of the assembly conveyor.
