The method involves measuring a path (1) having two path arches (3, 4) relative to a lateral parking spot (5) based on the parking spot and a actual stopping position (6) for parking a vehicle (2) with smallest radius of the path arch (3). The path is simultaneously and maximally shifted against a driving direction depending on a parking spot length. An area that is provided on a side of the vehicle is provided during path planning, where the side is provided opposite to the parking spot. The measurement of the available area on another side of the vehicle is carried out. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a drive assisting device for implementing a method for planning a path during parking of a vehicle (2) a computer program product stored on a computer-usable medium having computer-readable program units for implementing e method for planning a path during parking of a vehicle during execution of the computer program product on a microprocessor with associated memory units or on a computer.
